Rock Tuba is a project that tubist Travis Netzer has undertaken combining the world of classical music with the modern world of rock and roll, with perhaps the least likely instrument to do so. Using electronics and amplification, Netzer has distorted his tuba to match the sound of any rock concert and created a program that includes pieces from groups such as The White Stripes, Ram Jam, The Animals, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers and combines them with solo works from 'classical' giants such as Bach, Penderecki, Kraft, and Piazzolla. It's a program of strange bedfellows, played by a notoriously criticized instrument, from a man that group up on a farm in South Dakota.
